At Torrey Pines Dental Arts dental clinic, the core team of Dr. Richard Sherman, Dr. Steven Horne, and Dr. Kelly Terranov offer cosmetic, restorative, and also general dental solutions. Dr. Richard L. Sherman, a practicing dentist of more than 30 years, earned his dental degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, completed his General Practice Residency at Dayton Ohio’s Miami Valley Hospital, and after practicing for over ten years joined his father’s private practice.
Dr. Steven Horne earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California in 2007 and had distinguished himself in cosmetic, restorative dentistry. He has practiced dentistry as an Army Dental Officer for four years with distinction.
Dr. Kelly Terranova graduated from the University of Notre Dame, attended the Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and specializes in restorative dentistry.

Incredible experience. I came here due to an emergency with my retainer. They fixed it up and gave me a 50% discount because they said it was just a case of cleaning it, adding new adhesive and sealing it in. I was in and out in a flash. Great customer service, awesome staff. A+

I have been coming to Torrey pines dental arts for several years now and everyone is so friendly. Dr. Horne is very caring, took care of root canals as well as other tooth issues I have had. They even recommended a specialist when my old tooth started giving trouble again. And of course, Nancy!! She is the best. My teeth are so much cleaner now and she has "nudged" me into developing regular flossing! :)

My periodontal cleaning technician has given one of the best treatments ever. I like going to this type of office located in a medical complex, it feels more professional and definitely worth the small parking fee (paid in part by the dentist). As I mentioned above, I've had many dentists and Torrey Pines Dental Arts is by far the best experience of them all!

5 starts, I even moved 3 hours from La Jolla and I prefer going back to them. I have been going since 2008. They are honest, caring, and always have a solution . I have gone to other dentists, and they are always trying to oversell me scaling and other suff. These guys are superb. And if you are an International student or come from another country (I went while in UCSD), I recommend them with my eyes closed. They offered me the same or better quality, I was accostumed

Very very happy with place. In my younger, more immature, days I took considerable time off from visiting a dentist. I chose TPDA when I wised up and could not be happier with my decision. They welcomed me and never once made me feel like an idiot, which I was, for abdicating my flossing responsibilities for so long. They took great care of me and within 2 years they helped me get all of my measurements back into good territory. I previously would have "losing teeth nightmares" somewhat routinely, but not now. I highly encourage anyone that is looking for a new dentist to go see the friendly folks at Torrey Pines Dental Arts.

Had my first appointment today.. from the moment I walked in I was greeted by the front desk, Richard who walked me thru the registration process. Very ease ! Then I waited about 10 minutes before I was called in... started my xrays and then had my cleaning. Niccila was my hygienist .... she was gentle and thorough at the same time. One of the best experiences I have ever had a Dentist office. Look forward to meeting Dr. Sherman soon and continuing a long relationship with this practice!

I have found a dental office that is a partner in my dental health. No one really likes going to the dentist, but when I walk into this practice, I feel like I am greeting a family. All of the staff works very well together and they treat you as a person verses a "mouth" of teeth for them to examine. I have never felt more confident in my dental health, whether my teeth are poor or in good shape before my cleanings and I always leave their practice knowing I am in wonderful hands. On a consumer review, they always have appointments when I need them, the office is very clean and inviting, they never try to "sell" me something I do not need like other dentists are notorious for and I have never had billing issues. Their staff is also very responsive to email communication which for me is a plus. Overall, A++++

Dr. Sherman is the best!!! Where else you can find the dentist that is listening to what your needs are? He's always made me comfortable in that CHAIR, he has miracle hands to created an art work for my teeth, even though my dental plan is out of his network and I have to pay in full to visit him. I'm what you might call an "anxious patient" and hadn't been to a dentist in years when I found Torrey Pines. The entire office is very warm and caring. They helped me through a few procedures to greatly improve my dental health. Dr Sherman is the best; several specialists practice there as well. So if you need oral surgery or a periodontal procedure you are in luck! (I've had both, with no problems and very little discomfort -- these guys are good.)

This is a warm, comfortable professional, and very caring dental practice. I have an excellent experience every time I visit, and know my dental needs are in the best of care. They know my medical needs (surgical back/hip), need for antibiotic, and light-sensitive eyes and get me pillows and dark sunglasses often without me even having to ask! I don't really like going to the dentist and I have had some awful dentist experiences in the past (e.g., trying to sell me stuff I don't need, like invisaline, trying to steal my gold tooth and replace it with something else, unhygienic facilities, rude dentists/dental assistants, etc....). Torrey Pines Dental Arts is none of those things and really an amazing place with an amazing staff. I've never felt anything but comfortable and completely satisfied there. I highly recommend it.

I initially chose Torrey Pines Dental due to convenience (I work in the same building) but over time, one thing has become resoundingly clear: Nancy is unequivocally THE BEST hygienist you'll EVER have. She's so kind, incredibly gentle, and exceptionally thorough. She's meticulous and critical in the best way possible and never makes you feel embarrassed about the state of your teeth. My teeth feel all but brand new when I leave her chair. Dr. Horne is also wonderful with his exams. He walks you through everything, explaining as he goes, and is always willing to answer your questions. Torrey Pines Dental is where it's at, they have the dental experience down to an Art for sure.

Where to start? About four years ago I broke a rear molar in two and needed emergency dental aid. I didn't have a local dentist so, I looked and gave Dr. Sherman a try. It was a miracle I have to say. He was able to extract the tooth without it breaking further and I've been trouble free ever since. Flash forward to today. It has been years since I had my teeth cleaned..can anyone tell I might have an aversion to dentists. When I was a kid I jumped out of the chair and ran for blocks before my mom caught me. I just couldn't put it off anymore as I seem to be a total tartar factory! My hygienist was Rebecca and she was absolutely AWESOME!!! This is going to be a two part procedure with xrays today along with an ultrasound prelim scaling. I took my earplugs with me in case of loud noises (they def came in handy!) and she was so gentle and thorough. Almost 90 minutes and it was a breeze! Afterwards Dr. Sherman met with me to go over xrays and everything else. I will have to go back for the scaling using the instruments as my tartar was so bad but, I totally trust them. I'm in between jobs at the moment and without any insurance (or income for that matter, lol) but they are worth every penny!!! I cannot recommend them enough. They really do care!

This place is fantastic. Convenient to UCSD's campus and takes GSHIP insurance. I've been going here for 5 years. It was recommended by graduate students my first year and more kept starting every year. I know a lot of grad students who come here. I'd keep coming here if I wasn't leaving town. My dental health continued to improve every visit. The hygienists provide a lot of extra detail about oral health that actually makes you feel like you control the process. They work with you on the common goal of good and healthy teeth instead of making you feel like you have a problem and they are fixing you. I really appreciated that. In my first year or so, they seemed pushy to get you to buy more things, but I just politely declined. It wasn't a big deal. The only thing I did end up buying was an electric toothbrush, which is great and much better for my dental health, but it was more expensive than buying it on amazon.

My college roommate recommend Torrey Pines Dental to me almost seven years ago. It was in the Ximed Center, pretty much on the UCSD campus. I originally went for the convenient location, but after graduating I continued coming here for the attentive staff and quality service. Torrey Pines Dental is extremely tech savvy in comparison to other dental offices with their X-Ray process along with the text and email appointment reminders. The availability of 7:30am appointments on Thursday mornings allows me to get in a cleaning without eating into my workday. I no longer live near UCSD and once made the mistake of going to another dentist closer in proximity to my home. It was a horrible experience. I learned my lesson and will stick with Torrey Pines Dental for as long as I live in San Diego.

I used to go to another place in Sorrento Valley and heard about this place from a colleague. I got my wisdom teeth out by the surgeon at this place and it was awesome. The whole process was smooth and except for the numbing shots I didn't feel any pain. The surgeon was very nice and gave me his personal cell phone number to call him if I needed him after hours, Dr. Sherman is the nicest doctor ever! I have switched to them and would recommend them to anyone! The only thing is, their treatments are a little expensive compare to other dentists but if you are willing to pay 10-15% more to get the best its totally worth it!! I just got my teeth cleaned today and was very satisfied!

Dr.Breese is amazing and he cares! I recently had to take my wisdom teeth out and one of my roommates recommended that I went to Torrey Pines Dental Arts. It was easy/quick to schedule an appointment. Before/After I took my wisdom teeth out, Dr.Breese made sure I was aware of everything he was doing and made the experience bearable. Everyone knows that it is difficult to imagine "enjoying" going to the dentist. Especially when you need lots of work done. But everyone at the office makes it an easy, pleasant experience that you actually somewhat look forward to. Dr. Sherman is helpful and open, and hilarious to boot. All the hygienists, like Karen, are fantastic. Very easy to work with and talk to. Everyone at the front office is amazing - they help you understand your insurance, they work with you if you have problems, work around schedules, and offer honest feedback and suggestions. I strongly, strongly recommend Dr. Sherman's practice to anyone that needs a great dentist!

Upon entering you are warmly greeted and the wait was very short before I was called back to start. The technician quickly took pictures and was promptly introduced to my hygienist Nancy. I honestly don't even know where to start with how amazing she is! Nancy took such great care of me, made me feel so comfortable during this normally uncomfortable experience! She did one of the best cleaning jobs I've ever had and I had no pain the next day. Nancy is absolutely the best, I can't say enough good things about her! This is a beautiful office! Everything is extremely clean and high tech (example - you check in on a touch screen monitor). The dentists, dental assistants, and receptionists are all extremely kind and make the visit actually pleasant (rare for a dental trip!). The waiting area is nice too - free keurig machine, and I never have to wait very long to be seen.

Torrey Pines Dental Arts has one of the friendliest and knowledgeable staff that I have encountered, if you're willing to wait a long time for an appointment. I have been a patient of TRDA for about 2 years and it is conveniently close to my work. It took a while to get an appointment but I needed it so I can get a wisdom tooth extraction. During the whole time, they explained in great detail all that was going to happen and why. They even gave me an option to use general or local anesthesia, which I opted for the local one due to cost. All the people there knew how much insurance will pay, so I never had a surprise bill from the later on. After the procedure (painful, but they prescribed me any painkiller I wanted, which was nice), Dr. Breese gave me his personal cell number to make sure I was okay. At the end I ended up paying out-of-pocket about $350 for the procedure, which was in the average range. I did have a small problem after the procedure but I went in person for an emergency appointment which was able to fix the issue. After 3 months, I was able to schedule in a regular check-up and cleaning at a time that worked for me. The dental hygienist did most of the work and the dentist greeted me and talked to me for about 5 minutes about some of the dental work I might need. After listening to them, I did schedule a specialist about 7 weeks in advance. I never met with the specialist because they had to cancel my appointment since the specialist "was not going to be done with the previous appointment in time" i.e. they overbooked. They asked me if I wanted the first appointment the next week, but I declined since I already had to clock-off my job for it and I did not want to do it again. Overall, I really liked their service, but booking appointments or keeping their appointments can be difficult.

I thought Karen did an excellent job cleaning my teeth. She showed a lot of attention to detail. She walked me through everything she did, so I knew exactly what was going on every step of the way. She even helped show me how I am SUPPOSED to brush my teeth which no dental office that I've been to took the time to show me. I won't be going back to my previous dentist. It's hard for me to say "woo this dentist is awesome!" because of the 2 hours I spent there, I only saw the dentist for about 10 minutes. Admittedly, this is the biggest dental production I have ever been to (I went to a one-man show for 25 years, and a 3 person office after that), and pretty tech-savvy. The office is super nice, but it kind of sucks you have to pay for parking; $2 after validation. My first visit took a whopping 2 hours, which is by far the longest dental check up I have ever had. They took about a million pictures, including just frontal photos of my teeth. I'm not having anything cosmetic done, so the extra photos were something new (am I being charged for that?). Moving on.. After the photoshoot, the dental hygentist provided an extremely throughout exam, including two videos that I'm pretty sure were made for children under 10. Nevertheless, I eventually left the doctor's office with super clean teeth.

Came here and thought it was going to be a good experience because of the good reviews. Now I am very disappointed and I am not sure if I got ripped off. it is relatively expensive to get stuff done here in my opinion in comparison to other places and i paid a lot for what i could have gotten done somewhere else
